October 2025
Message from the President

Welcome to the 2025–2026 ASHRAE Triangle Chapter Year!
We’re excited to kick off another great year with our incredible Triangle ASHRAE community!
Fresh off the Region IV Chapter Regional Conference (CRC), we’re excited for what’s ahead. It was a pleasure connecting with fellow chapters from across the Southeast — special shoutout to the North Piedmont Chapter! These gatherings are always a great reminder of the dedication and camaraderie within our region.
We’re also proud to share that our chapter achieved a major milestone last year: the highest number of PAOE points in our history! The Presidential Award of Excellence recognizes chapter excellence in areas like member engagement, education, and operations, and it’s a testament to the dedication of our volunteers and leadership team.
A big congratulations to Harrison Kesling, receiving the Rudy Ferguson Memorial Award — a well-earned recognition of outstanding contribution and service!

Our 2025–2026 chapter year is already off to a strong start. Our first meeting on September 10th featured a fantastic presentation by Chris Edmondson of James M. Pleasants, covering Cooling Tower Suction Piping. Thank you to Chris and to everyone who joined us!
Looking ahead, our next chapter meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 8th, where Tony Furst will present on Control Valves in HVAC Systems. His talk will dive into valve types, sizing, authority, energy implications, and how these systems impact overall performance. You won’t want to miss it!
For event details and registration, please visit the ASHRAE Triangle Chapter website.
Looking forward to another year of learning, networking, and advancing our industry together. Hope to see you soon!
Warm regards,
Joseph O’Keeffe

Building EQ

ASHRAE's Building EQ Portal provides a quick energy analysis that benchmarks a building's energy performance. Building EQ assists in the preparation of an ASHRAE Level 1 Energy Audit to identify means to improve a building's energy performance including low-cost, no-cost energy efficiency measures and an Indoor Environmental Quality survey with recorded measurements to provide additional information to assess a building's performance.
Two different evaluations can be used independently to compare a candidate building to other similar buildings in the same climate zone or together for an assessment of a building's design potential compared to actual operation:
- In Operation compares actual building energy use based on metered energy information.
- As Designed compares potential energy use based on the building's physical characteristics and systems with standardized energy use simulation.
You can learn more by going to the following webpage: https://www.ashrae.org/technical-resources/building-eq
If you have done an assessment before, please let us know. We'd like to hear about it: [email protected].
