The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc., is a non-profit international organization of about 56,000 persons with chapters throughout the world. The Society is organized for the sole purpose of advancing the arts and sciences of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R) for the public's benefit through research, standards writing, continuing education and publications. Through these, ASHRAE shapes tomorrow’s built environment today.

History of the Society:
ASHRAE was founded in 1894 and is now a global society advancing human well-being through sustainable technology for the built environment. ASHRAE was formed as the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers by the merger in 1959 of American Society of Heating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHAE) founded in 1894 and The American Society of Refrigerating Engineers (ASRE) founded in 1904.
