SESSION 1: Attracting and Retaining Women in Engineering

Ginger Scoggins  PE, CEM, CxA, LEED® AP, Principal

Scoggins_Ginger__presenterGinger is the President and Principal mechanical engineer at Engineered Designs, Inc. located in Cary, NC.  Ginger founded this firm 19 years ago, and has maintained this firm at over 20 employees for the last eight years.  Ginger works daily in the role of principal marketing contact for the firm which helps her facilitate her role as the primary project scheduler.  She also oversees the mechanical design department reviewing projects for accuracy and insuring their timely completion.  Ginger is also a certified commissioning agent, as well as a certified energy manager, and works on commissioning of projects ranging from $4 million construction cost up to $90 million construction cost.

ASHRAE highlights:
Ginger has been involved in ASHRAE since 1988 when she joined the Triangle Chapter.  She became the chapter’s research chair for two years, and won the Money Bags regional award for raising more money for her chapter than ever before.  She went through the chapter chairs, becoming the first female president of the chapter in the 1995-96 year.  She then moved into a Regional position, becoming the Region IV Membership promotion Vice-Chair, as well as serving on the Meetings & Arrangements committee for the Society.  In the years following, she has worked for many years on the Programs and CEC committees, becoming chairs of each committee.  She also served her Region for numerous years on the Society Nominating committee, and subsequently became both a BOD appointed alternate and delegate for varying years.  Recently, she has just completed her term as DIRECTOR & REGIONAL CHAIR of Region IV, and has served on both the Society Planning committee, as well as the Society Finance Committee, and has been program sub-committee chair for TC 9.10 focusing on Laboratory Design.  She is currently in her 2nd year as an ASHRAE Society Vice-President, as well as Chair of Technology Council, and serving her second term on the Society Finance Committee.

SESSION 2: GGAC Legislative Update

Thomas H. Phoenix, PE, LEED AP, FASHRAE

Phoenix, Tom - presenterThomas Phoenix is a Principal with the Architectural / Engineering firm of Moser Mayer Phoenix Associates located in Greensboro, NC, USA. He serves as Vice President and Director of Engineering. He has a B.S. degree in engineering from NC State University. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in North Carolina and six other Slates and has over 30 years of experience in the design, operation and maintenance of building mechanical systems.

Mr. Phoenix has been an active member of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers) since 1982, and was elevated to the grade of Fellow in 2011.He is an ASHRAE Presidential Member, having served as Society President in 2014-15. He previously served terms on ASHRAE's Board of Directors as Society Treasurer, Society Vice President, as a Director at Large, and as Director and Regional Chairman of Region IV. His past ASHRAE activities also include serving as the Chair of ASHRAE's Members Council, and as the Chair or numerous ASHRAE committees and task groups. Mr. Phoenix is an ASHRAE certified Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP) and Building Energy Assessment Professional (BEAP).Mr. Phoenix is active in his local community. He is a graduate of Leadership Greensboro, a member of the Leadership Greensboro Alumni Association and a past member of the Board of Trustees for the Greensboro Children's Museum.

He is a Charter Member and Past President of the Gate City Rotary Club. He served as a Committee Chairman for the Jimmy v Celebrity Golf Classic for Cancer Research for 19 years and was a leader with local Boy Scouts or America Troop 101.

He is married to the former Rebecca Champion, and he and Becky have two children.

This presentation should meet the NC PE criteria for 1 hour of PDH credit (unless noted on the sign-in sheet).
Please Pre-Register with your PE number, and sign the Attendance Verification sheet.
Should the state ever require Proof of Attendance, simply forward their request to President@TriangleASHRAE.com and a copy of the Attendance Sheet will be provided to them. Note: their rules require you to keep additional records. See the NC PE Board for details.
